In view of UNESCO’s obligation and comparative advantage in working on HIV and AIDS, UNESCO has given priority to education based on the evidence that education contributes toward the knowledge and personal skills essential for the prevention of HIV, and protects individuals, families, communities and nations from the impact of AIDS.In this light, the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu works with the Government of Nepal, Nepal Joint UN Team on AIDS and other local partners to overcome the conditions that facilitate the spread of HIV and to create the conditions of understanding and tolerance that contribute to reduced stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
