UNESCO Kathmandu is the first field office to adapt this Information Kit, which is originally developed by UNESCO Bangkok, to the needs of a particular country. This task is undertaken with financial support from UNESCO Bangkok and with technical assistance from Oxygen Research and Development Forum (ORDF), a local NGO. On 6-7 March, participants from the Ministry of Education and Sports and related agencies, schools, the Parent Teacher Association, Teacher Union, National Centre for AIDS and STD Control, UN agencies, and national and international NGOs studied and discussed the preliminary translation and adaptation of the kit. Their debates were fruitful, and the participants came up with a lot of interesting feedback. The objective behind the workshop is to make sure the Information Kit is user-friendly and easily understandable for school teachers who have no prior knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Also, the kit should be culturally sensitive. Based on the valuable feedback from the workshop, the adaptation process will now be continued, and the above mentioned stakeholders will be further included in the process. The Information Kit is expected to be launched in May 2007.
